Through Your Eyes, I See More Clearly (excerpt), single-channel video, sound, familial archive, found footage, 2024

"Through Your Eyes, I See More Clearly" is a live-action montage that uses VHS footage to examine my family's early diasporic experience in the American Midwest. The film explores the complexities of navigating two cultures and the challenges of maintaining cultural identity while assimilating into a new environment. The imperfections of the VHS format highlight the potential for material degradation and erasure. This is emphasized by the interweaving of footage, such as my sister's offering of rose petals to relatives in Lebanon, alongside clips of American advertisements, game shows, and Western news reports on the Lebanese Civil War.
